Brief Life Sketch:
begum Rokeah was born in December 09,1880 at Pairabandh village of Rangpur in Bangladesh, her fathers name was Jahiruddin Mohammad Abu Ali Saber, the name of her elder brother was Ibrahim Saber and elder sister was Karimunnesa, Ibrahim saber was educated person and Karimunnesa had been interested in education,Brother gave her chance to learn about and First with the Holy Quran and Hadith,learning English and Bengali was prohibited to Muslim girl in that era, Rokeah was fond of learning Bengali and English,Karimunnesa inspired her and Ibrahim taught her Bengali and English silently that their father could not know it, Thus she learned Bengali and English with grammar and read a lot of novel,articles,dramas of both the language,
she got married with Syed Shakhawat Hossain ,when she was 17 years old, shakhawat was a Deputy magistrate and Widower, He possessed a large heart in women's education both Bengali and English,besides day long he was busy with his job, so he used to bring a number of Bengali and English novels and drama for Rokeah. Moreover, Shakhawat was very progressive minded man and he was in favour of women empowerment, Rokeah learned to write Bengali poems, novels,stories and even in English language, the only listener was her husband, Rokeah wrote "Sultan's Dream"(one novel) both in Bengali and English language, which was very much Feminist writing and husband corrected the manuscripts still that book is counted as a first femini9st and courageous writing against the patriarchal society,,
